    Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt, accompanied by SPDC members Maj Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence, the ministers, the Chief of Staff of Navy, the deputy ministers and officials of the State Peace and Development Council Office, left Yangon [Rangoon] by military aircraft on the morning of 29 December and arrived in Sittwe, Rakhine State, at 0915 [local time].

    The Secretary-1 and party were welcomed there by SPDC member Maj-Gen Aung Htwe of the Ministry of Defence, Brig-Gen Maung Oo, chairman of Rakhine State Peace and Development Council and commander of Western Command [first monitored reference by Rangoon media to Brig-Gen Maung Oo holding this position previously held by SPDC member Maj-Gen Aung Htwe]; Minister for Industry-1 U Aung Thaung, Brig-Gen Phone Swe of Sittwe Station, Acting Commander of Danyawady Naval Region Command Cmdr Aung Thaw, members of State, District and Township Peace and Development Councils and departmental officials.

    The Secretary-1 and party, accompanied by SPDC member Maj-Gen Aung Htwe of the Ministry of Defence and Commander of Western Command Brig-Gen Maung Oo, then proceeded to Maungdaw by helicopter.

    First, the Secretary-1 attended the opening ceremony of the multimedia teaching centre of Maungdaw Basic Education High School at 1030 on 29 December. Also present on the occasion were SPDC members Maj-Gen Aung Htwe and Maj-Gen Khin Maung Than of the Ministry of Defence,Commander Brig-Gen Maung Oo, the ministers, the deputy ministers, senior military officers, state, district and township authorities, departmental officials, social organizations, the headmaster, members of School Board of Trustees, Rakhine traditional cultural troupes and students.     Secretary-1 Lt-Gen Khin Nyunt and party inspected development works of Maungdaw Township and then visited the border areas and immigration inspection and control headquarters in Maungdaw Township where they were welcomed by Commander U Aung Ngwe and service personnel. Commander U Aung Ngwe reported on measures undertaken by border areas and immigration inspection and control headquarters and economic, social sectors and law and order in the region. The Secretary-1 then gave instructions. The Secretary-1 and party arrived at Aungthabye Sanpya Village in Maungdaw Township where they were welcomed by Myo nationals.     Southeast commander opens library in Moulmein

    A new modern library in the Mon State was opened at 0730 [all times local] on 27 December in front of Pyinnya Yaungkyi Modern Library in the compound of the Mon Cultural Centre in Moulmein. Mon State Administrator U Tin Pe first explained the opening of Pyinnya Yaungkyi Modern Library and Brig-Gen Thura Myint Aung, chairman of the Mon State Peace and Development Council and commander of Southeast Command [first monitored reference in Rangoon media to this position previously held by Brig-Gen Myint Swe who becomes the Rangoon commander], then cut the ribbon to open the library. and Yangon [Rangoon] Commander Brig-Gen Myint Swe pressed the remote button to unveil the new library...

    Triangle region commander meets Shan State officials

    Brig-Gen Chit Than, commander of Triangle Region Military Command and chairman of Eastern Shan State Peace and Development Council [first monitored reference to Brig-Gen Chit Than holding both positions which were previously held by Maj-Gen Thein Sein; Brig-Gen Chit Than was formerly commander of Military Operations Management Command No 13], met and held talks with Shan State, district, and township level responsible departmental personnel at the Meeting Hall of the Triangle Region Military Command at 1330 on 27 December.
