Thaksin's party has to get real on Burma

source : The Nation

Last night (February 14), a member of the Thai Rak Thai party showed up on channel 11's "Krong Sathanakarn". He expounded on his ideas about Thai-Burmese border conflicts as well as the drug trade problems.

To stop these kinds of conflict, he said, we have to adopt a "good neighbour policy" as a way to reduce distrust between the two countries. By conducting a good neighbour policy, he mentioned that "if the Burmese wanted to commit slaughter among themselves, let them do it, but please respect that as their internal affairs without any interference.

Oh God, what kind of policy is that? Has anyone ever told TRT that Burma now has full membership of Asean; and we included her with a strong hope of reforms and changes after joining the organisation?

If we are supposed to ignore whatever happens in that country, why do we have to hurt ourselves, integrate her as one of the family and take the risk of being disenfranchised from the world.

The continuing freezing of relations between Asean and the European Union is not funny at all. As long as human rights violations continue and the political situation in Burma does not improve, Asean will have to suffer the wrath of the international community.

Yet the only one thing TRT can say about this is, "if they want to kill themselves, let them do it". Can someone please teach TRT how to spell the word responsibility, and give them the history and the evolution of Asean?

They might become smarter and realise that the Burmese are not only killing themselves, but killing us too. Also, we are killing ourselves in our ignorance.
