GRAPE VINE

Wrong Signals

source : the times of india

The Indian government has set a really bad precedent by inviting General Maung Aye, the Vice-Chairperson of the Peace & Development Council of Myanmar to India.

India is the largest democracy in the world, and therefore it should be supporting democratic governments and not the most autocratic regimes of the world. By welcoming the top ranking military general from Myanmar the Indian government is sending out wrong signals.

The Myanmarese people who have been ruled by an autocratic government are looking toward India with great hope. And instead of boycotting Myanmar economically and politically India is going about indulging it.

Though India may be trying really hard, there is just no way that the Myanmar government is going to desert China for India. China being Myanmar's closest military and economic ally has total control over its foreign policy.
