GRAPE VINE

Genetic mutation and Aung San Oo
At conception human beings inherited two sets of genes, one from their mother and one from their father. Apart from identical twins, each individual has a unique genotype. Everything that happens from fertilization onwards, whether in health or disease, is a product of interactions between the environment and the inherited genotype.

Resemblance among family members is a function of both genes and common (shared or family) environmental influences. Genetic influences were important in infancy and early childhood, only to be superseded by environmental influences as the child matures. Psychologists believed that the chracteristics of human behavior were almost entirely the result of environmental influences.

Josef Silverstein has written in the book "Freedom from fear", that Aung San Suu Kyi resembles her father in many ways - a warm smile, strong facial features and piercing eyes, direct speech and a commanding presence. Our leader Aung San Suu kyi has the courage of her father Bogyoke Aung San, an unswerving determination and a resolve in the face of persecution and diversity. She appears to be the reincarnation of her father.

Recently she was faced with a law suit filed by her own brother "Aung San Oo", at the critical moment while she is fighting relentlessly for the peace and freedom of Burma. Aung San Oo is claiming for his share of inheritance, and one might argue that this is a family affair and we have no right to interfere. But it is not true. It was irrefutable that this vindictive and despicable move by Aung San Oo is politically motivated, strategically planned by SPDC, reinforced with the string pulled by his wife Lei Lei Nwe Thein.

So...what has happened to Aung San Oo, who is the eldest son of our national hero. Has he not get his share of genes from his parents? Or is it genetic mutation ? Is he psychologically well and sound ? Being a medical professional myself, more research is needed to be done to find out about his problem. It appears that environmental influences make family members different, rather than making more similar to one another.

Whatever it may be, indubitably it is one of the many attacks by the military regime, this time with the help of her own brother. Obviously they have not learnt a lesson that, the more she was attacked, the more the people flocked to her banner. The truth and justice will prevail one day in a very near future.
